How to teach vocabulary
*Never ask students did you understand ( never ever ask മനസ്സിലായോ? )
*Instead ask concept check questions
*Show a picture and ask them to identify
*Yes/No
*Find antonym
*Find synonym
*Use in a sentence
*Action or object or drawing in the board
*Ask for definition
Example given below : Twilight
Concept Check Questions:
- "Is twilight during the day or night?"
- "Does twilight happen when the sun is rising or setting?"
Show a Picture:
- Show an image of a sunset and ask, "What time of day is this picture showing?"
Yes/No Questions:
- "Is twilight the same as midnight?" (No)
- "Does twilight happen after the sun sets?" (Yes)
Find Antonym:
- "What is the opposite of twilight?" (Noon)
Find Synonym:
- "Can you think of another word that means the same as twilight?" (Dusk)
Use in a Sentence:
- "I like to take a walk during twilight because the sky looks beautiful."
Action/Object/Drawing:
- Draw a scene on the board showing the sun setting and the sky turning dark to illustrate twilight.
Ask for Definition:
- "Can someone explain what twilight is?"
By using these techniques, you can ensure students not only understand new vocabulary words but can also use them correctly in various contexts.
